Last Saturday (28th) Edwige and I spent one night at the T.O. Fuller State Park in Memphis, TN. We took a taxi into town to see some of the sites. While on historic Beale Street, we came across the Withers Collection Museum Gallery (333 Beale St.).
The gallery contains the photographic works of the late Ernest C. Withers, who among other things was the personal photographer for Martin Luther King. We spent a couple hours viewing his work and talking with the Assistant Manager of the gallery, his Grandson Ernest Robert Sawyer. We also had the pleasure of meeting his daughter Rosalind Withers.
Powerful, historic and important work. The best part is that you can purchase copies of any photographic print in the gallery! You can visit their website here: witherscollection.org
Ernest and Rosalind were incredibly kind to us and answered whatever questions we had. If you are in the Memphis area, I would make this a must see.
